Over the phone or in person we will discuss your property. We will talk about what is working, what isn't, and what you'd like to see in the future.

In-person property assessment
We will walk the property together with your goals in mind, evaluating how it is laid out, how deer are currently using the landscape and how they move across the property. Taking into consideration wind direction, hunting pressure, and surrounding properties, we'll begin tailoring a management plan specific to your land.

Layout and strategy
Food plot locations, bedding areas, stand placement, and overall hunting tactics for your unique property. We'll explain how it all comes together to help you meet your future goals.

A strategic plan, in-hand, for your property
After your on-site consultation, you will receive a written deer habitat improvement plan tailored to your property. Use it to make improvements yourself, hire Holmstead Outdoor Services to complete the work, or choose a combination of both.
Practical experience, paired with honest guidance
Kevin Holm is the owner of Holmstead Outdoor Services (HOS), a U.S. Army veteran, and a lifelong outdoorsman with decades of hunting experience and a strong agricultural background.
Kevin learned habitat management hands-on by improving his own land and other properties he has hunted, watching how deer responded, and refining his approach over time. His consulting services grew from that experience and from learning the difference between improvements that genuinely influence deer movement and projects that simply cost a landowner time and money.
He approaches every property practically and will be honest about what is worth doing, what can wait, and when a plan is more ambitious than it needs to be.
Clear pricing before you commit
Consultations start at $1,200, with pricing scaling up based on the size of the property. Larger properties take more time to walk, assess, and turn into a detailed habitat improvement plan, so the cost increases with acreage.
Any installation or land improvement work is quoted separately after the consultation, based on the projects you choose to move forward with. There is no obligation to hire HOS to complete the work.

After the plan: You choose how the work gets done
When you want HOS to handle the improvements, we quote each project separately based on the plan. That may include food plots, access trails, screening, clearing, water sources, and other wildlife habitat installation work.
Many landowners use the plan as a guide and complete the work themselves over several seasons. The recommendations are written to be clear and usable, whether you do everything at once or make improvements gradually.
What to know before a consultation
How large does my property need to be for a wildlife habitat consultation?
There is no minimum acreage. Smaller hunting properties can benefit just as much from a thoughtful whitetail habitat plan because food, access, bedding, wind, and deer movement all matter more when space is limited.
Is wildlife habitat consulting only for whitetail deer?
No. Whitetail deer habitat is a primary focus, but the property assessment can also account for turkey, or general wildlife habitat. Many landowners want to improve their hunting property while also supporting wildlife overall.
What should I have ready before the property consultation?
Come with a general idea of what you want to improve, whether that means better deer movement, stronger bedding cover, improved food sources, or easier hunting access. A property map, aerial image, or survey is helpful if you have one, but it is not required.
